My opinion:
These chapters apparently present the cause and effect of Inman's death. When we criticize it by using the moralist and reader-response theories, it has a lot of moral characteristics. It began with Inman. He was a selfless person because he secretly sacrificed himself to fight with the Home Guard without even fearing it, even if it was a little thing that he could do to protect anyone that he loved to survive from them until he died finally. It has the potential to teach us about the sacrifice of humans. Sacrifice is a good thing because it is the fundamental virtue of people who live in society. Society will only be peaceful if everyone is willing to make sacrifices for the common good of society and others. In terms of living itself, we are frequently willing to sacrifice time and strength today in exchange for happiness and success in the future, but there is no assurance that our today's sacrifice will allow us to achieve the results we desire in the future. Indeed, effort, physical and mental dedication, and strength are good things, but we have to find time to rest and strength to give us tomorrow. So, we must try to live in the present and work hard, but we do not forget to relax and find happiness as well. Inman was a cautious thinker because he always thought about the advantages and disadvantages of his actions completely. He evaluated the situation of the Civil Wars and estimated which side would win in these wars. Moreover, he chose the best choices before he did anything, like in the scene when he chose the ways to save himself and anyone he loved from many problems. It teaches us to think carefully about everything we are doing, or we will do in the future. We should not do everything that we think because our thoughts are both good and bad. We are not born to think and do everything that we think. If we do not, we will become bad people in the eyes of everyone in society. In addition, Inman was a generous person because he forgave anyone who had done something wrong in the past, and he gave the Home Guard a chance to reform himself to be a great person, as he had done with the preacher. He did not kill the Home Guard that tried to kill him, but he told him to put his gun on the ground and ran away. We learn about giving a chance. Giving a chance without expecting to always get something back is the greatest gift in the world. Sometimes the opportunity can only come once. When someone gives us a chance, we should appreciate and quickly accept it to do something better because sometimes the next opportunity may not come. If we do not have the consciousness to improve, change, or do a moral thing, everyone will not give us a chance finally. Then, we learn about being good role mothers like Ada and Ruby, who treated their sons and daughter well. Beginning with Ada, was a good mother because she taught her daughter to know how to do something by leaving her to try to do it. When it was dangerous for her, she would teach her that she should not play or do it again. Ruby taught her sons to do everything by themselves. She taught them to be strong and clever people in the future. Moreover, both of them taught their son and daughter about morals all the time because they wanted them to become moral people for society in the future too. These can teach us about the correct ways for parents to take care of their children. Having children is an honor and a source of pleasure for both the father and mother, but parents must raise their children to be full-fledged people, that is, to be perfect in body and morality. The best way to teach is to use love, be given enough time or quality, and understand the nature of children of different ages. The child will grow up to be a quality person in the future. Conversely, the children who grew up with only help from their parents could never help themselves. These children will grow up to be self-centered children. They will lack good self-control and have serious problems, or they can be aggressive with themselves. So, life experience is the most important thing which can help them to survive in this world. They must stand by themselves. Next, Ada was a pathetic person because she lost her lover immediately, who she had waited to stay with and make every day of her life happy with. She missed him all of the time. When she looked through to Cold Mountain, she thought of the scene when he died in her lap. Every year, she always partied with her family and him, even if he was not alive in this world. It teaches us about the loneliness of humans. Loneliness is extremely powerful. It remained in the words, tone of voice, and eyes, indicating that only the bereaved had been that lost in the vast loneliness of eternal farewell. On the day, the loss is still intense and the sorrow spreads throughout the body. Nostalgia lingers in every thought and breath. Any rejoicing seems lighter and less important than the death of a loved one. It may not be easy and quick to adjust your mind to be able to live a normal life in a world without a companion, and no matter how anyone awakens us, we will always be asleep. Finally, the only person who can save us from the agonies of death or anything else in the world is ourselves. So, we need to move on even if it might not be as perfect as it used to be. Not as good as I used to have someone by my side. Finally, these stories teach us about the small-mindedness of humans. The Home Guard was a selfish and inhumane person who could betray anyone who helped him without regret and only cared about himself. He could betray Inman, who relied on him and gave him a chance to reform himself to be a great person by shooting him until he died, so he was a very immoral person. It can teach us about trust and betrayal in humans. Trust is good, but if you trust the wrong place, time, or person, you may lose everything in your life. When we rely on someone who is thankless for it, they can betray us without regret. Being betrayed by the person we love or who is closest to us is a very painful thing in life. We should be grateful to those who came into our lives and betrayed us. We shouldn't be offended by them because they make us stronger and know what to be careful about from now on.
