My opinion:
This chapter obviously presents the stories of two women who Inman met during his journey. Criticize by using the moralist theory. It began with the old woman who helped Inman to heal his wounds and take care of him until he was ready to continue his journey again. She was a kind and clever person because she helped everyone who she had not met before, and they were suitable to help, like Inman. She did not get angry or dissatisfied with anyone who made her feel sadness and nothingness. Not only did she not get angry with them, but she also knew what she should do after that like she had done the experience with her boyfriend before. She knew the true ethics of the world, the nature of all lives, and the roles of everyone in the world because she could kill a dozen goats by herself without regretting it, and she thought that was the role of these goats to be food for her dinner. It can teach us that we should learn about the true ethics of the world because it can help us to understand the roles and naturals of all lives. All humans and animals have a different roles to be or do something, although it will be happy or cruel for you. After we know that, we will have an attitude towards helping someone who is suitable to accept it. When someone destroys your feelings, you will have the confidence to make a decision to do something next without any hesitation. The one woman that Inman met was Sara. She was a young woman who faced many hard obstacles in her life because she did not have the ability to survive herself and her child in the winter and she did not have a martial art to protect herself and others from bad situations, like the scene when the Federals attacked and squeezed her out. On the other hand, the Federals were selfish because they could steal and attack anyone they wanted without regrets. They used their power to oppress others. It can teach us about high-handed actions and unskilled human lives. We must not use our power to attack or threaten inferior people. Whereas, when we are fragile people, we should improve our skills and abilities to survive without any disagreement, because they can help us to overcome all the problems that we face easily. Moreover, Sara had a generous heart because she helped everyone who she had not met before. Likewise, she did not keep money from others who she helped. Although she did not rely on them like the first time she met Inman, she opened her heart and told Inman to sleep in bed with her. We learn about the generosity of humans. We should do something well with everyone without expecting any profit because money or anything else is not more essential than the kindness of people. Inman was able to lift his spirits after he knew the natural order of life, and he knew what to do when he reached his goal. He thought about the damage and usefulness before he did anything, like the scene when he killed the Federals and brought anything they had stolen back to Sara, as if they survived, they would do anything like this again and it would cause damage to others. It teaches us about logical thinking before doing anything. When we brawl with someone, we should evaluate and think about the strengths and weaknesses of the event or people that we met before doing something with them, and we must be ashamed of our sins when we do something badly. Next, in Marxist theory, the actions of the Federals extorting and squeezing Sara and her baby illustrated the political and administrative roles of the government in a capitalist system in the American Civil War. The extortion of the Federals was correct in the capitalist system because some people under the government in the capitalist system would have the prerogative to oppress people who were inferior to them, so the Federals could do anything lawfully to extort, squeeze them out, and kill them by themselves without regret. Conversely, inferior people must be willing to be obliging, although they would be unwilling to help government people like the Federals. Finally, based on historical and feminist theory, the actions of the old woman were generally the same as every woman in the American civil wars of the 19th century. Women during that century did anything without dependency on men. They did anything by themselves because most men during that event had been soldiers in the wars and were not alive among the warriors. Women needed to be a pillar of the family instead of the role of men, so they needed to do everything in both the roles of men and women. Conversely, the actions of Sara were different from the general women in that event because she did not have the ability to survive her child and herself in the winter as she killed a pig for cooking, so she could not live without her man.
